Response to Laura Gomez

In response to what Laura said, I think that Cheswick is an example of how hard it is to break out from the restrictions of the ward. It is much easier to conform to society than to be the only person standing up for what you believe in. In some ways I can see Cheswick as being a martyr because he was making a bold statement for something he believed in.

I kind of disagree with the fact that Cheswick was a martyr, he was making a bold statement for something in which he had believed in, but I dont think it was worth his life. He could have done other things that could have helped more, other than just dying to show a point. He could have tried to fight back to prove his point and not just give up and kill himself.

I agree with Julie in that he was making a bold statement and being a martyr. I do also see John's point in that it was not worth his life but I feel that he had nothing to really live for. He was confined in this institution and he probably thought that the best way to live his life was to end it and prove a statement as apposed to just live by the way the nurse wanted him to.
