Mcmurphy has changed his attitude in the ward, now he follows the rules and acts decent to nurse ratched. He has realized he is "committed" and the nurse has the power to keep him as long as he is causing trouble. Does Mcmurphy act different to for the sake of getting out earlier or is there a greater meaning behind leaving nurse ratched alone? Do you think Mcmurphy has a plan that involves more than just the staff at their ward?

I think that McMurphy has realized that he is officially "committed" and the Nurse Ratched has complete power over when he gets released from the ward. He now understands why everyone else is a coward and never does anything against the Nurse. She controls everything. McMurphy isn't like the rest of the patients on the ward, he is a psychopath, but he is still sane. I dont know if he does have a plan to escape, but I am sure there will be more surprises to unfold.

I belive that McMurphy has come to the realization that no matter how hard he persiveres tward his goel of freedom Nurse Ratched has all conrtoll of his life. Now that he understands that he is "commited" and in the same boat as everuone else he realizes why the other Acutes cower whenever Nurse Ratched puts her foot down. As time goes on I think that his drive for freedom with flownder and he will become soft.

Although McMurphy has come to a realization that he is trapped in the institution for as long as Ratched wants him there, this new information has not helped him. He has lost interest in aggravating Nurse Ratched and is trying to conform. His attempts at conformity in an asylum will only lead to bad things. Other patients will lose hope. McMurphy himself will lose hope or even completely forget about any chance to get out. Soon after he will begin taking on traits of an insane person as he is abused in the hospital mentally and physically. it is quite possible that he will end up just like the Chief. Quiet, afraid and unaware of his own strength. In fact he may forget the sound of his own laugh.

nurse ratched has control over the ward and all the people in it. mcmurphy has realized this and has begun to lose his spark which he entered the ward with. he is acting differently (following the rules) in hopes that he will be released sooner and to be able to fly under the radar. the nail that sticks out gets hammered.

McMurphy is acting differnt because he realizes that Nurse Ratched has control over the ward. He starts to follow the rules of the ward becuase he has noticed that NUrse Ratched can not do anything to him if he is doing everything right. I feel as if McMurphy is coming up with a plan that will help everyone in the ward by taking there fear of Nurse Ratched and use it against her.
