Mr. Turkle

McMurphy asked Turkle to wake him and Sandy up right before the morning staff arrives. This however, never happened. Do you think it was just because Turkle was drunk and high, or was there more to it?

I think it happened by mistake, because of Turkle's state. I think that it was foreshadowed earlier in the scene when Chief continually noted Turkle's tired state, and his inability to remain awake even during the party.

I think he was in a high/drunk enough state that he skipped a steps in the plan and already tied himself up

I believe that McMurphy didn't expect Turkle to wake him up in the first place. He knew that Turkle was drunk and probably wouldn't do his job. I believe that a combination of pride and stupidity forced McMurphy to stay on the ward to finish what he started.
